In what shearer Corey Mifsud accurately describes as "a bit of a challenge", he, his dad Roger and brother Brody will shear for 24 hours at the Warrnambool Showgrounds - all in the name of raising much-needed funds.
The event will kick off on Friday at midday, and continue until 6.30pm Saturday night, with about 2200 head prepared to be shorn, supplied by Richard and Ali Davies from a block they manage at Macarthur.
Mr Mifsun said the sheep set to be shorn were a third-cross, out of Romneys and composites.
He said with the huge demand for shearers, holding an event in the middle of the busy season was a "big effort".
"We don't really have time to be honest, it's obviously peak season - we're in the middle of our main season," he said.
"But for us it's nothing to take this week off work to get organised and shear all weekend, if we can raise anything for the kids that need it, it's no issue."
Mr Mifsud, from Warrnambool, said the event would raise awareness for autism and ADHD, as well as funds for two special schools and a support group.
One of the schools, the Skene St Specialist School, is where Mr Mifsud's four-year-old son Levi, who has ADHD and autism, will attend.
The Mifsuds held a similar event in 2018, where Mr Mifsud said he sheared 755 head, but his dad beat him with a tally of 786.
"[My brother] Brody put his hand up to jump on board for this one... he's got second thoughts now because he hasn't shorn for five years and has only really come back shearing in the last couple of weeks to prepare his body," he said.
"I've done a fair bit in the gym, Brody hasn't, and Dad is just stubborn - he doesn't do any training, he just gets up there and does it.
"Since we've been out of lockdown I've been [to the gym] three nights per week... trying to get a little edge over Dad to beat him this time."
Mr Mifsud said the event three years ago raised a total of $45,000 and he hoped to at least equal that this year, with a goal to raise $50,000 which will be split between the schools and parent support program.
