The future of the Tasmanian agriculture industry was celebrated at the Agfest Young Farmrer of the Year competition over the weekend.
The competition tested participants over 12 modules, including public speaking and home economics, to showcase the skills needed to thrive in the industry.
Andrea O'Halloran was ecstatic after she took out the top spot in a competitive field of 12 finalists.
"It was incredibly surprising, it's an honour to have won and it's a fantastic competition and I privilege to have made first place," she said.
"It's been three years since I've been involved so it was great to come back and catch up with everyone.
"It's just fantastic to have events running again after the past 18 months we've had."
The popular competition returned after being postponed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Second-place recipient Caitlin Radford said it was great to have the competition back again.
"We were all extremely sad that we couldn't have it last year but it was definitely great to be back," she said.
"It's a great event with all the different modules that they offer ... and you know that you always learn new skills and get to connect with like-minded people."
Rural Youth state president Jake Williams lauded the efforts of the volunteers to get the competition running again.
"It was thanks to all our sponsors [and volunteers] that we were able to pull the event off," he said.
"The scores were definitely tight right the way through the day, they were quite close from start to finish.
"We weren't able to have it last year so it was great to be able to get it off the ground this year," he said.
