Heifers were in demand at the Leongatha store sale, going from the high 500 cents a kilogram to the low 600c/kg.
Agents yarded 4300 head of steers, heifers, cows and calves.
Alex Scott & Staff livestock representative Dane Perczyk said the sale was $50-$100 a head dearer than the last one.
"The heifer job was very strong," Mr Perczyk said.
"You were paying $2200-2250 for 330kg black heifers or about 680c/kg - that just keeps getting stronger each week.
"They are going back to the paddock, people are seeing the potential for future breeders."
He said secondary steers were also stronger than a fortnight ago and there was solid breeding in the yarding.
Nutrien Ag Solutions auctioneer Brian McCormack said the large yarding set up buyers and producers for the coming months.
"You got to 610c/kg on 500kg steers, there were other cattle in the mid 400-500kg [range] that made to 660c/kg," he said.
"Everybody has got a bit of feed so breeders are sending their top end in and keeping the rest."
Nutrien offered a large yarding - almost half the yarding - with the intention of attracting a big bidding field and saw feedlots Keswick, A&F, Garrison and Charlton in attendance.
Feedlots bought cattle to background, with grass fatteners picking up stock weighing from the high 300kg to low 400kg.
"If you want those blokes to turn up, you've got to set your sale and your day up in such a way and make sure it works," Mr McCormack said.
