Prices eased slightly for younger cattle at the Yea monthly store sale, with one agent saying the lack of large drafts appeared to keep northern buyers away.
Agents yarded about 2400 steers, heifers, cows and calves on Friday.
Nutrien Yea auctioneer Tyson Bush said the heavier cattle sold on a par with other previous markets.
"They could have been a tad dearer, but the spring drop cattle were probably a touch easier, $60-80 a head cheaper," Mr Bush said.
"The market was predominantly held up by heavier cattle."
He said Nutrien's spring-drop sale, later this month, had already received bookings for more than 3600 head of cattle.
"I am hoping it is a drawcard for the northern blokes to come down and confidently buy cattle that are properly vendor-bred, high country cattle," Mr Bush said.
"There were not enough numbers to draw commission buyers and agents, from up north."
Elders Yea livestock manager Jamie Quinlan said several good drafts of stock, particularly from Ponkeen and Mount Erica, sold well.
"There was a lot of cattle, but not a heap of big runs," Mr Quinlan said.
"Lighter weight heifers might have been a little bit cheaper."
Feedlots JBS, Schubert Boers, Ravensworth, Comdain and Hopkins River were all active.
"There were some heavier cattle, over 500 kilograms, with the blacks making a tick above 400 cents a kilogram, while the coloured cattle made in the low 370-375c/kg," he said.
"The black steers, 400-500kg, made 460-475c/kg while the Herefords made 450-460c/kg."
