Light steers at Leongatha have sold to prices pushing up to 800 cents a kilogram.
Agents yarded about 4500 head of cattle.
Nutrien South Gippsland Livestock agent Jack Ginnane, Leongatha, said the company offered about half the yarding, with all of the large draft of the Elm Valley, Tarwin Lower, cattle going back to the paddock.
Nearly all were purchased by repeat buyers.
"They are noted performing cattle in this area and they are only getting better and better," Mr Ginnane said.
"Everything was a little bit firmer - there's a little bit of rain about, not much to make a huge impact, but it will spur people on a little bit."
He said it was a very good yarding of quality steers and although there were not a lot of crossbreds and dairy steers on offer, they sold "a little bit better than previous weeks".

Prices for the 350-strong Elm Valley annual draft of Kunuma-blood steers, 7-8-months-old, reached more than 800c/kg.
Their pen of 29 Black Baldy steers, 288kg, sold for $2320 a head or 805c/kg.
Elders Korumburra branch manager Rohan McRae said there was plenty of weight in the cattle, and they "held up very well".
"Black steers, 550-560kg, were making 520-530c/kg, with Hereford steers between 550-550kg selling for 520-530c/kg," Mr McRae said.
He said black weaner steers, over 350kg, sold for 650c/kg.
"Maybe there was a slight easing, but it was only slight and nothing that would stop you from marketing cattle," he said.
The annual draft from Omeo Station, Benambra, sold for $2400-$2600, with many of the cattle going back into the paddock.
Mr McRae said Brookland Park, JBS, Mort and Co, buyers looking for northern orders, O'Connors, Pakenham, and Teys were among the feedlots present.
"There were a good number of heifers and they were right up there too, with Omeo Station selling its cattle for $2200-$2300," he said.
Alex Scott & Staff livestock agent Rob Ould said the regular feedlots were active, with locals buying the better weaners.
"Locals just have a bit more confidence with what is starting to happen with the season," Mr Ould said.
"The heifer job was okay.
"There were still a few feedlotters buying them, including Garrison."
Eddington Holdings, Loch, sold 24 Banquet, Lawson, Welcome Swallow and Yancowina-blood steers, 550kg, for $3100 or 563c/kg.
Julie K Livestock sold 19 Angus and Hereford steers, 614kg, for $3280 or 534c/kg.
White Pasture's top-priced pen of 16 Banquet-blood steers, 505kg, sold for $3060 or 605c/kg.
CJ Pendergast's, Benambra, top pen of steers, 373kg, sold for $2500 or 670c/kg.
J and M Ainsworth's 23 Angus heifers, 311kg, sold for $2050 or 659c/kg.
H and S Logan sold 19 Angus steers, 613kg, for $3220 or 525c/kg.
Zanacon sold 19 Angus steers, 567kg, for $3100 or 546c/kg, while Hookey Pastoral sold 40 Angus steers, 564kg, for $3100 or 550c/kg.
