Cows and calves shone at the monthly Colac store sale, pushing close to $4000 for one pen.
Charles Stewart Dove director Shelby Howard said the rest of the small yarding sold to exceptionally good rates.
With very few heavy cattle in the market, lighter stock sold for around 600 cents a kilogram.
But Mr Howard estimated some of the smaller calves would have sold for about 900 cents a kilogram.
"Those two pens of Bull Dust Park steers made $1650 and they would have averaged 175kg, so that's 943c/kg," Mr Howard said.
"It was a lighter yarding, but whatever was there sold extremely well."
Agents yarded 482 head of stock, including 70 calves.
While Ballarat Meat Company's Mike Beaumont bought both steers and heifers, stock also went back to local paddocks, and Warrnambool, Ballarat and Geelong agents, as well as Beefed Up Holdings.
Northern Victorian Livestock agents also picked up a small number of cattle.
"It's a very, very good season we are having, which is reflected in the demand for cattle," Mr Howard said.
"We have seen huge results in the prime markets in the last month and store prices are running alongside them."
Nutrien Ag Solutions auctioneer Phil Douglas said the lighter end of cattle was still very strong.
"I see one of the north-eastern blokes, who comes down regularly, didn't get a lot," Mr Douglas said.
"I'm not sure if nothing has really suited him, or it was just too dear."
Cows and calves sold very well at four hundred cents a kilogram plus.
"They are comparatively a good buy, you can see a good reward out of them.
"There was a good crowd, for a small yarding.
"It's just driven by grass, we have this bit of rain and we are up and going," he said.
