Increased numbers are expected at the Western Victoria Livestock Exchange's annual weaner sale in Mortlake, to be held on Friday, January 14.
WVLX Agents Association president Matt Sculley, from HF Richardson & Co, said they expected to yard about 6200 steers and heifers (all breeds), an increase of more than 2500 head on last season's entries.
"The facility is really growing and gaining momentum," Mr Sculley said.

"The increase in numbers is partly due to plenty of support from local vendors and this season we are also seeing more calves being marketed through physical saleyards due to the high prices."
He said the quality and breeding of the calves would be very good and on par with previous years.
"We have had a very good spring so the calves have been making significant weight gains," he said.
Although Mr Sculley said the price outlook was difficult to predict, agents and producers were expecting very strong results.
"There is a lot of feed in the north so we'll be hoping for plenty of competition from there, and if the current high prices continue we would anticipate a very strong sale," he said.
He said buyers were expected to come from northern NSW and Queensland, as well as south-east SA, Gippsland and local areas.
The sale kicks off at 10am and will be interfaced with AuctionsPlus.
