The Royal Agriculture Society of Victoria has confirmed it will not proceed with holding a regional cattle show to replace the Melbourne Royal.
The society had been considering holding this year's Melbourne Royal Beef Cattle and Beef Carcase Competitions at Tatura.
Cheif executive Brad Jenkins said the state-wide lockdown and the COVID outbreak in the Shepparton region had disrupted any plans therefore the events would not be going ahead.
"Since making the decision to cancel the 2021 Royal Melbourne Show due to the COVID pandemic, the RASV management in conjunction with our Beef Cattle Committee have been exploring and considering options to conduct an alternative Beef Cattle and Beef Carcase Competition in Tatura," he said.
"We understand and appreciate the considerable time, effort and commitment that our exhibitors place on preparing cattle for a Melbourne Royal and for this reason we were hopeful that we may have been able to present an alternative program in 2021.
"We greatly appreciate the enthusiasm and work undertaken by members of the RASV Beef Cattle Committee in exploring alternative options and the exhibitors for their ongoing support and understanding during these challenging times.
"We are committed to maximising the appeal and success of the Melbourne Royal Beef Cattle and Beef Carcase Competitions and look forward to ongoing involvement of our loyal members and exhibitors at the 2022 Melbourne Royal Show."
