Ballarat livestock agents yarded about 3900 head of cattle at CVLX on Friday, May 17.
Nutrien Ballarat livestock manager Xavier Shanahan said everything sold to a dearer trend.
"There were plenty of buyers here on the heavier cattle, and the steers are $50-100 a head dearer than last time," he said.
"Heifers are about $100 dearer here now too."
He said given the current seasonal conditions, it was positive to have a dearer market.
"The fat markets are getting dearer so that filters through," he said.
He said Midfield bought several heavy steers, Tey's bought feedlot cattle to go to Jindalee, Queensland, and Duncan Brown had orders for northern NSW.
"The cattle have a bit of bloom on them, they're good forward cattle and there are spring-drop calves now and they're good too," he said.
Father-and-son duo and vendors Bob and Rob Sheedy, Beaufort and Mt Wallace, said they were reasonably pleased with the prices, though they "could always be better".
