New FastFencer JNR helps farmers build fences quicker and safer

There is a new kid on the block when it comes to innovative fencing products.

That kid is the FastFencer JNR.

The only one of its kind on the market, the FastFencer JNR, is the brainchild of Jon Earl of QuikFence at Warwick, on Queensland's Southern Downs.

The first machines were rolled out earlier this month and will make the lives of farmers and fencing contractors much easy from now on, according to Mr Earl.

The FastFencer JNR is just the latest in the FastFence line of fencing equipment, designed by Mr Earl, who recognised the need for a range of reliable fencing equipment that helps farmers build fences quicker and safer.

Established in 1998 out of the necessity to supply quality gates for primary producers, Quikfence has grown immeasurably over the past 26 years to become the name synonymous with fencing equipment for all sized jobs. The family owned business started by producing quality heavy duty gates under the name Warwick Gates and supplied them across the country.

"This was pre-overseas gates flooding the market with lighter and cheaper gates from Asia," Mr Earl said.

During this stage, the business started building fences and recognised the need for a range of reliable fencing equipment. This, in turn, ignited Mr Earl's passion to help farmers and professional fencing contractors have the right equipment for the job.

Today, QuikFence sells fencing equipment to farmers and fencing contractors, including the FastFencer, which carries three fabricated mesh rolls at a time, eliminating the farmer's need to do any heavy lifting.

"The FastFencer runs down the fence line on a tractor or skid steer with three heavy rolls, and it has hydraulic clamps either side," Mr Earl said.

"The clamps are able to hold the wire tight, allowing the operator to grab the fence, and pull it tight with the weight of the parent machine. With this done the operator can tie off the fence line to a post, and continue down the line.

"Once the roll is finished, the operator is twice able to join the next roll without the need to reload. This saves the farmer a huge amount of time and the need to do any heavy lifting. It also helps them build a better fence in less time."

Mr Earl said over time, it became obvious to him that smaller farmers who liked the idea of not lifting the mesh rolls either had smaller tractors (parent machines) or only needed to manage one roll.

To fill this gap the current design has been reworked and FastFencer JNR was born.

"This suited smaller farmers, or those with smaller tractors and even those with excavators and small mini diggers," he said.

"FastFencer JNR is purpose built to suit the smaller parent machines in both one roll and two roll versions. Lighter material has been used to save weight where it's not required for the strength and durability but the result is exciting for farmers that want to use smaller tractors and excavators etc."

Mr Earl said the Fastfencer came about from recognising the things the other contraptions were missing to make the handling of fabricated fencing materials and the need to be able to tension, tie off and be able to do this whilst driving forward.

"The original machine is still being used and the models that follow are a result of several years of use and feedback from clients who have bought and used them. The FastFencer was tested and adjusted, including heavier construction, the ability to fence with 900mm to 1800mm rolls, and the need to handle rolls with aprons for exclusion fencing. All of these factors needed to be considered."

Having built hundreds of kilometres of rural fences, plus attending countless field days to receive feedback from farmers and fencing contractors, has enabled Mr Earl to learn, first-hand, what's required to refine the FastFencer and now introduce the JNR machine.

"The FastFencer JNR is designed particularly for the farmer who has smaller gear, so to lighten down the machine the obvious thing to do is go back to a single side clamp, however a single-sided machine is only half a machine," he said.

"Experience tells us that a machine that only clamps on one side is really inhibiting the flexibility of being able to be on either side of the machine. To eliminate this, a unique rotation action that allows the clamping mechanism to swing to either side of the machine was designed."

The great news for farmers is, the FastFencer JNR will be lighter, and can clamp from either side of the machine.

"The swivel action is unique to QuikFence, with no other fencing machine having the ability to do this," Mr Earl said.

"Other single-side fencing machines require the farmer to unbolt the clamping arm, drag it off the machine, lift it and carry it to the other side, then bolt it back into place," he said.

"This is truly heavy and awkward work and is far from easy. FastFencer JNR's unique swivel action totally eliminates this problem."

Mr Earl said the FastFencer worked all day, every day, and could "take a pounding".

"As long as they haven't been abused, no matter how hard they have worked, QuikFence will buy them back to resell them. The demand for these machines is so strong that second hand ones are sold within days," he said.
