An important prize honouring an emerging leader is set to be reintroduced at the 2023 Australian Sheep & Wool Show.
The Signature Bull Young Champion Award recognises the innovative practices and outstanding achievements of members of the sheep and wool industry who are still in the early years of their careers in the sector.
It has not been awarded since 2018 but will be presented during this year's Stud Masters' Muster social event at the ASWS.
Muster co-ordinator Alex Lewis, a woolgrower from Beverley Merino stud in Redesdale and a former Young Champion Award winner himself, said it was time to reinstate the accolade after it was not presented in 2019, then fell victim to COVID disruptions.
Mr Lewis called on industry colleagues to submit suitable nominations by July 7.
"Nominees must be under 35 and actively participating in the sheep and/or wool sectors," Mr Lewis said.
"They might work on farm, or be stock agents, wool brokers, agronomists, consultants or from other relevant fields, as long as they are making a contribution to the industry that's worth recognising."
The winner will receive a $500 The Signature Bull - Ringers Western voucher and carry the Young Champion Award title for 12 months until the next event.
Mr Lewis said the Stud Masters' Muster - sponsored by Melbourne Royal and Australian Wool Innovation - was a highly-anticipated event allowing meat and woolgrowers spanning all generations and from all parts of the country to share knowledge, swap stories and enjoy each other's company in a relaxed environment.
"It's all about building social connections away from the daily grind," he said of what is one of the biggest industry-specific events of the year.
"You don't even have to be a stud master to attend.
"Everyone is welcome.
"Last year was our first year back after COVID and we had in excess of 100 people there.
"It was very big, and I have no reason to doubt it will be every bit as popular this year."
The Stud Masters' Master will be held from 7pm on Friday, July 14, at the Prince of Wales Showground in Bendigo.
Entry is $35, which includes "a hell of a fun night", according to Mr Lewis, two drink tickets on arrival, plenty of finger food and live music from Bendigo-based acoustic performer Luke Owens.
Tickets to the event - and The Signature Bull Young Champion Award nomination form - are available via the Stud Masters' Muster tab on the ASWS website.
