Fewer volume buyers allowed restockers a chance to purchase pens of cattle at Leongatha for the final store sale at the Victorian Livestock Exchange for 2021.
Agents yarded about 2400 steers and heifers on Friday where well-bred steers sold to firm rates, as secondary cattle slightly eased, South Gippsland agents said.
SEJ Leongatha livestock manager James Kyle said the sale featured a well-presented offering of grown cattle.
"Well-bred steer calves and anything that presented well and ticketed all the boxes sold accordingly," he said.
"Cattle which were secondary in condition might have eased a bit."

Nutrien South Gippsland Livestock auctioneer Jack Ginnane said light cattle were the highlight of the sale.
"We started on a couple of pens of older but quality was limited compared to our feature sale last week," he said.
"Young Angus calves were very strong and sold for 700c/kg or more and up to 750c/kg and they mainly went to restockers who have a bit of grass in their paddocks.
"The whole day was perhaps a little cheaper but overall quality has dropped away which is expected because this was a bit of a clean up sale between now and the next store sale in a few weeks."
