With an exceptional yarding of 827 grass accredited steers and heifers at the annual store sale at Corryong last Friday, Justin Costello, Costello Rural, Corryong, Victoria, reported a determined contingent of buyers kept the prices strong on all lines of cattle, culminating in great results for all vendors.
"Buyers from Moree, Gippsland, Tasmania, Wodonga, Benalla and local grass fed graziers bid heavily on the top quality locally bred cattle," Mr Costello said.
"From the outset the locals set the pace and bid freely on all lines of steers over 300kg, then the restockers took over competing on all cattle presented with Grass Accreditation."
Featured steer sales included a top of $2670 paid for 20 15-month Angus steers weighing 382kg sold on account B and T Whitsed, Corryong, Vic, while M Vogel, Corryong, Vic, sold nine yearling Murray Grey steers, Elburn and Thologolong-blood weighing 536kg for $2640 and Keith Wilson, Towong, Vic, sold 20 14-16 month Angus weighing 414kg for $2660.
A pen of 25 Angus weaners Raff and Merridale-blood weighing 285kg sold for $2615 on behalf of G and B Costello, Corryong, Vic., with most pens of that weight range selling at 730c/kg.
Feature lines of weaner heifers sold to $2300, when G and B Costello, penned 15 Angus, nine to ten months and weighing 356kg, while Ross Jarvis, sold five Angus heifers weighing 413kg and joined to Ardrossan low birthweight Angus bull for $2220.
