A direct-to-satellite livestock ear tag has won a prestigious design award.
The Ceres Tag - Animal Monitoring Technology received a Good Design Award Gold Accolade in the Product Design category, recognising outstanding design and innovation.
It also picked up the Powerhouse award.
Ceres tag CEO David Smith said the tag was a classic example of collaboration with the company's technology providers and industrial designers.
"It was essential for Ceres Tag to invest in the development of a ready-for market product that aids in the adoption of technology, and receiving this award attests those effort," Mr Smith said.
The Ceres tag hit the market after a successful trial with a grazier in Townsville, Qld, and James Cook University, Qld, Ceres Tag and CSIRO.

The Australian Good Design Awards is the country's oldest and most prestigious international awards for design and innovation with a proud history dating back to 1958.
The Good Design Awards Jury said the direct to satellite aspect of the ear tag was innovative and presented an improvement on existing offerings.
"Customisability of the information is a positive for those who manage livestock as it enables farmers to adapt the data acquisition to their requirements," the jury said.
"The 'plug and play' aspect is powerful as this circumnavigates complex install processes.
"The form and user interface is clean and easy to navigate and the long battery life is a fantastic feature."
The jury also commented on the no infrastructure, no maintenance, no subscription aspect of the design, which respected farmers' fluctuating income cycles.
"This design solution can improve farm efficiency, management and make life easier for farmers," the jury said.
Since its launch Ceres Tag has been rolled out to producers in more than 17 countries.
