Females are set to shine on the main stage of Kyneton weaner sales, as agents interface the sale with AuctionsPlus in an effort to secure northern buyers' attention.
Kyneton Livestock Agents Association president Kieran McGrath said about 1500 autumn-drop weaners will be on offer at the combined McGrath Rodwells Livestock, Elders and Nutrien Ag Solutions annual sale.
"The quality of the cattle in the Macedon Ranges has improved so much that it would be up there with quality livestock anywhere in Victoria," Mr McGrath said.
"We have breeders who in the last 20 years have spent a lot of money on bulls and cows to improve their herd."
He said breeders would offer elite weaners from Adameluca Angus, Banquet, Boonaroo and Te Mania bloodlines.
"All the tops Angus studs will be represented," Mr McGrath said.
With abundant feed and prolonged spring conditions, he said weights of weaned cattle would be 300-400 kilograms.
"I anticipate strong feedlot competition and a few northern orders to be in attendance," he said.
"With the season we are having, I'd expect solid local competition and strong bidding from backgrounders across Victoria."
For the first year, the sale will interfaced with AuctionsPlus to attract northern interest.
"That northern competition represents people who are trying to rebuild their herds, and some of the heifers that will be presented will be local breeders' tops of their drops," he said.
"Buyers will be attracted to the heifer offering, to sell into the joined pregnancy-tested-in-calf market, and people forget that market despite it underpinning a lot of sales in the last 10 years."
