Weaner steers sold to 800 cents a kilogram at Mortlake on Thursday, peaking at almost $2600 a head in a market driven by restocker demand.
Agents yarded 2152 cattle at the Western Victoria Livestock Exchange, marking the second last store sale at the complex before the end of the year.
Mortlake Stock Agents' Association president Matt Scully described the market as solid, with most cattle categories firm to dearer.
"Heavy grown steers over 550 kilograms were firm to slightly cheaper on last sale's very high rates," Mr Scully said.
"Feeder steers 450-510kg were firm to 10c/kg dearer, topping at 592c/kg for the Wistow West pen of 39 Angus grown steers at 497kg."
