*90 of 105 Poll Dorset rams sold to $3000, av $1643
BUYERS competed to a top price of $3000 at the Shellal Poll Dorset stud's 42nd annual on-property ram sale at Hawkesdale last week.
The stud offered 105 Poll Dorset rams, and sold 90, to achieve an average price of $1643.
The top price was paid for lot 67, purchased through AuctionsPlus, and recorded a Terminal Carcase Production index of 152.9 and had Australian sheep breeding values of birth weight of 0.47 kilograms, weaning weight 10.4kg and post-weaning weight (PWwt) 16.5kg, fat depth -0.86 millimetres and muscle depth 3.2mm.
"The rams were in top condition, they had structure, visual appeal and ASBV data to back them up," Shellal principal Tania King said.
The second highest price of $2750 was paid for lot 32, who recorded a TCP index of 147.6, BWT 0.46, WWT 10.3, PWWT 15.7, and PFAT -1.08.
Of the 15 Southdown rams offered, 13 sold for a draft av of $1077, and a top of $2500, paid by repeat buyer, Peter McDonald, Grassbank stud, Grassmere. The twin-born ram recorded a TCP of 117.3.
Shellal sold 13 of 15 Southdown rams to a top price of $2500, and av of $1077. Of the 30 Poll Dorset ewes offered, 18 sold to $1000, for a draft average of $711, while 15 of the 24 Southie rams sold to $1200, av $967.
