- Total clearance of 39 bulls to $48,000, av $16,717.
Banquet Angus, Mortlake, has seen repeat buyers buoy its annual spring sale, which saw a top price of $48,000.
Banquet Angus partner Stephen Branson said it was a very strong result.
"The top price and second top price were both to repeat clients - it was certainly again a sale driven by repeat clients," Mr Branson said.
The top-priced bull went to a Tasmanian client, through AutionsPlus.
Banquet Redden R018, a February, 2020-drop bull, was sired by Vonn Banquet Kotter N297 out of Vonn Banquet Vicky N603.
He had TransTasman Angus Cattle evaluation figures of a +4.7kilogram birthweight, +46kg, 200-day weight, +88kg 400-day weight and a +121kg 600-day weight.
He had a carcase weight of +62kg, an eye muscle area of +3.5, rump fat of -2.1 and intramuscular fat of +0.7 per cent.
Redden's scrotal size was 38 centimetres.
He said Banquet had used Redden solidly, during winter.
"We liked him and thought he had a lot to offer," he said.
"R018 was the N297 son we chose to use as a yearling.
"What was so exciting to us was that he came back from work in such good condition.
"He went back into his mob of bulls, thankfully they accepted him well."
The bull stood up, in both condition and weight, compared with the others, which hadn't faced the same rigour.
Mr Branson said the stud aimed to breed a line of bulls that were functionally sound and had the basics right.
"One client who purchased at the sale averaged $1800 a head for his 12-month old steers last year - this year he averaged $2200," he said.
The prime market was also doing very well.
"Cows in Mortlake topped at 470 cents a kilogram, it makes it easier for people buy bulls, or fertiliser or build fences."
Elders stud stock manager Ross Milne said Banquet had a good following throughout the country,
"That was evident in that we had purchasers from Queensland, NSW, Tasmania and locally," Mr Milne said.
"Buyers like the phenotype and power that these bulls possess."
He said the structural integrity of the program and its maternal strength were also seen as positive.
"This spring sale has only been going for a few years, but it is certainly starting to build momentum."
The sale was held at WVLX, Mortlake, by Elders and Nutrien, interface with AuctionsPlus.
