Promising cattle prices continued to reward vendors at Bairnsdale on Friday as 12-month-old steers sold beyond $2400 a head.
Agents yarded about 1700 cattle for the fortnightly store sale where a handful of vendor-bred annual drafts sold to strong demand.
Coonmoor Pastoral Co, Lindenow South, sold a draft of 85 Angus steers to average $2405, while J & K Alexander, Walpa, sold a draft of 82 12-month-old Angus steers to a top of $2270.
Bindi Station, Bindi, also headlined the sale with a draft of 140 Hereford steers and 20 heifers.
Nutrien East Gippsland livestock manager Brad Obst said cattle sold extremely well and were bought by local and South Gippsland restockers.
"We started off on five or six pens of older steers and then moved onto annual drafts of weaner cattle," he said.
"I would say the prices are that far ahead compared to 12 months ago they're not funny."
A feature of Nutrien's sale was the Coonmoor Pastoral Co draft, featuring Landfall and Hazeldean bloodlines, including 17 steers, 15 months, 433kg, which went under the hammer for $2430 or 561 cents a kilogram.
The Caldwell family of Coonmoor Pastoral Co also sold three pens of 12-month-old steers including 22, 398kg, for $2410 or 605c/kg, 23, 383kg, for $2410 or 629c/kg and another 23, 376kg, for $2380 or 632c/kg.
The draft averaged $2405.

The Alexanders also sold 15 Angus heifers for $1630 and 10 Angus heifers for $1440.
Bindi Station, Bindi, sold a draft of 140 Hereford steers, eight to 10 months, including a top pen of 16 Hereford steers, 265kg, for $1850 or 698c/kg, 24 steers, 245kg, for $1830 or 746c/kg and 24 steers, 242kg, for $1780 or 735c/kg.
The same vendor also sold 12 Hereford heifers for $1300 and 11 heifers for $1070.
Selling agent Elders Bairnsdale livestock manager Morgan Davies said the sale was "as strong as we've seen it" and indicated it could be a sign of demand to follow with spring only a week away.
"Everyone has adapted to the increase in prices and some people are selling some pretty dear fat cattle and are looking to replace," Mr Davies said.
"The cattle are lighter so we didn't have as much feedlot competition, so it's more restocker and backgrounder driven.
"There were some lighter runs of females still making 600c/kg plus and they all went to south and central Gippsland predominantly."
Sharp Fullgrabe director Graeme Fullgrabe said it was a "very good sale" with decent demand for vendor-bred cattle.
Penderscourt, Benambra, sold a pen of first calving Hereford heifers with six-week-old calves at foot for $3400.
B & J Herbert, Lindenow, sold a Speckle Park cow and calf unit for $3260.
