*Total clearance of 89 bulls to $26,000, av $8646
THE WIND and dust blew at Murdeduke Angus on Thursday bringing the bids with them into the wool shed.
The Wilson family offered 89 bulls in total, with Lot 2 - Murdeduke Hero Q146 - being secured by a consortium based in the Gisborne area, through Elite Livestock Auctions.
Q146 was a 20-month-old son of Coonamble H176, in the top 10 per cent of the breed for birth weight, eye muscle area and rump fat.
"Their estimated breeding values were amazing and their docility was a driving factor," a representative from the consortium said.
The consortium also secured Lot 1 - Murdeduke Emperor Q057 - a son of Te Mania Emperor E343.
Volume buyer of the sale was Dunkeld Pastoral operations manager Wayne Johnstone, who secured 12 bulls to a top price of $12,000.
"We secured a line of bulls that had both maternal and terminal genetics, giving a wide spread over the 2000 Angus cows we are running," he said.
"We came to Murdeduke because of the structure of the bulls on offer."
Another volume buyer present was Mungawalla Agriculture, Beeac, securing four bulls to a top price of $13,000.
"We offered up more bulls this year, due to the strength of other sales, so that our local clients were still able to secure a bull," Murdeduke stud principal said Lachie Wilson said.
