Lightweight cattle continued to draw high prices at the Euroa store sale last week.
Agents yarded around 900 head.
Rodwells Euroa livestock manager Mick Curtis said weaner steers made between 460 and 700 cents a kilogram, with some of the lightest cattle fetching above 700c/kg.
"The highlight probably of the sale was the weaner steers that were spring-drop," he said.
"Generally they weighed from 190-245kg and made $1430 a head or $1440 to $1600.
"Your heavier weaners, 300-350kg, made 480c/kg to 520c/kg or 530c/kg.
"Then your 350-400kg made 460-480c/kg."
A pen of 11 steers weighing 409kg sold for 452c/kg or $1850, while 15 weighing 173kg sold for 699c/kg or $1210.
Mr Curtis said the quality was mixed.
"There was some well-bred cattle through the yarding but their was a bit of mixed stuff in the 900 as well, which is pretty common after we've had our weaner sales," he said.
As well as locals, buyers came from New South Wales, Gippsland, and the Goulburn Valley, he said.
Feedlot buyers were also present.
"Wangaratta had 3000 steers on the same day and it didn't make any difference to the competition, it was very strong," he said.
Heifers also sold well, he said.
"Generally the heifers made 430c/kg to 470c/kg or 480c/kg, depending on quality and weight," he said.
