The recent theft of equipment from a CFA station comes as a warning to other brigades and rural landholders and communities.
The theft of a brand new GPS device from the Metcalfe CFA station, has left the brigade captain Graeme Smith, "bloody angry".
He said the GPS was still in its box and yet to be fitted to a brigade vehicle.
He said the theft was "very disappointing".
"It's a bit poor that as an emergency service there are people who will take advantage of you when you're back's turned," he said.
"Just goes to show brigades need to be aware that thefts could occur and to make sure their equipment is secure," he said.
Victoria Police leading senior constable, Scott Binns, Castlemaine, said this type of theft happened from time-to-time particularly in remote areas.
"They are mostly opportunistic. People should secure things as best they can," he said.
People could help the Police by maintaining a list of equipment and model numbers and serial numbers to help identify stolen goods when recovered.
"Simply engraving a driver's licence number on equipment can also help in identifying owners of stolen equipment," he said.
CFA brigades be warned - recent theft a reminder to brigades and the community to be vigilant.
The warning comes as the Metcalfe brigade had a brand new GPS stolen from its station recently.
Brigade captain, Graeme Smith said the equipment was still in its box.
