Strong competition across the whole yarding of nearly 3000 cattle at Warrnambool, saw prices remain "very, very strong".
Warrnambool Associated Agents president Jack Kelly said prices and competition was very, very strong across all categories and vendors were ecstatic with the results.
He said that with the prime cattle market coming "back a little bit" and big store yardings the week before, "we were a little bit nervous" prior to the sale.
Mr Kelly had an example was a pen of steers that weighed 606 kilograms that made 384 cents a kilogram, well above the prime markets.
Mr Kelly said the short-term restrictions for SA buyers coming to the sale was covered with Campbell Ross and Alister Nelson helping fill orders for the SA buyers.
The yarding of cattle presented in outstanding condition after a great spring.
Mr Kelly said the area had received falls of around 30 millimetres the night before the sale, and that had added to similar falls recorded a week earlier.
The market for heavy steers, 500kg plus, was quoted at $386c/kg to 416c/kg, while steers in the range of 400-500kg made 428c/kg to 440c/kg.
Steers 300-400kg sold from 438c/kg to 544c/kg and lighter steers 285kg to 330kg made 450c/kg to 546c/kg.
The best of the open auction steers sold from $1420 to $1620 and the balance mostly from $1050 to $1400.
Mr Kelly said the open auction steers ranged from 260 to 295kg, with annual sellers supplying the said.
The heifer portion of the yarding sold extremely well making 380 to 475c/kg on weights of 300 to 500kg, he said.
The cross bred job was strong making 380 to 425c/kg, sold mostly to locals trying to fill their orders.
The sale also features the dispersal of the Treasland herd, property sold, that topped the steer and heifer sale then made up to $2600 for preg tested cows.
Mr Kelly said it was't often that buyers could bid on steers and heifers from a vendor then bid on the cows as well.
Angus cows with calves at foot sold to $2950 with most selling between $2000-$2500.
