Warrnambool's October monthly store sale was described by many buyers as one of the best in Victoria on the current markets.
Agents penned 1519 head, similar to the previous month..
Warrnambool Associated Agents president Jack Kelly said it was a good quality yarding that sold "very well".
"It was dearer than the previous sale - and I didn't think I would be saying that," he said,
The open auction cattle, heifers and cows and calves were all dearer, including F1 steers and heifers also, he said.
There was an excellent crowd and competition from feedlotters as well as buyers from South Australia, an area of Geelong and Ballarat, and Albury, NSW.
Mr Kelly said there was "huge local support" as people who had recently sold cattle looked for replacements.
He said vendors were ecstatic with the results, he said.
Buyers were active online particularly the cross-bred cattle and cows and calves.
He said the smaller cross-bred cattle had been the last category to take off, with some selling to 800 cents a kilogram.
The market for heavy steers, 500 kilograms plus, was quoted at 402 to 420 cents a kilogram, while steers 400-500kg sold from 432c/kg to 450c/kg.
Of the lighter beef steers, those 330 to 400kg made from 440c/kg to 488c/kg and light steers - 290 to 330kg made from 420 to 488c/kg.
The heavier end of the open auction steers made between $1300 and $1580 which worked out at more than 650c/kg.
The mid range of steers made $1000 to $1200, while the smaller steers made $800-$1000 with these calculated to top at 826c/kg.
Heavy heifers weighing 440kg to 500kg made from 392c/kg to 422c/kg, those 300-400kg made 420 to 452 and lighter heifers, 280 to 320kg sold for 440c/kg to 470/kg.
Of the open auction heifers the bigger heifers made $1200 to $1380, mid-range from $1000 to $1200 and small hjeifers from $750 to $1000.
F1 Heifers sold from $1350 to $1700 with smaller heifers making $1000 to $1250.
Cross-bred steers and heifers were quoted dearer selling from 395c/kg to 438c/kg.
The cow and calves met solid demand with the tops selling for $2800-$3000 while most sold in a range of $2600 to $2900.
Main quotes for the day include a pen of 12 Angus steers, 499kg, sold account Rosedale, that made 412c/kg or $2055.
Twenty Angus steers, weighing 374kg, sold account Hay & Werchon, sold for 488c/kg or $1825.
N & F Hann sold 12 Angus steers, 363kg, that made 474c/kg or $1720.
Of the lighter steers there was a pen of seven Angus, 291kg, sold account I & A Lock, that sold for 488c/kg or $1420.
Seven Angus steers, account S & K Richardson, weighed 341kg and sold for 480c/kg or $1636.
A pen of steers account Bookadale comprised of 13 Angus that weighed 323kg and sold for 470c/kg or $1518.
Pope Buslines sold a pen of 11 Angus steers, 301kg, that made 484c/kg or $1456.
Couch Partnership sold 26 Angus-Friesian, autumn drop steers, weighing 229kg, that made $1370 or 598c/kg.
In the heifer section there was a pen of 12 Angus, 328kg, that sold account Glenwood Pastoral that sold for 452c/kg or $1482.
A draft account Napier included a pen of 21 Angus heifers that weighed 288kg that sold for 470c/kg, or $1353 a head.
Black baldy heifers sold account Tooronga, weighed 27kg across the pen of 23 that made 458c/kg or $1360.
Tops of the cows and calves was a pen of eight Herefords with eight calves at foot selling account Maurvan Slopes, for $3000.
Brendarry sold eight Herefords with calves at foot for $2800.
Four Angus-cross heifers with calves at foot were offered account Warrumyea Rise and sold for $2950.
