The weekend's rain band across Victoria was a classic sign the La Nina has arrived, according to Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Michael Efron.
Late last week, the bureau announced it was confident Australia would experience a La Nina, this year.

"This is a classic system we would see during a La Nina pattern, with tropical moisture coming down from the north of the continent and interacting with a weather system, coming from the west," Mr Efron said.
"That weather system generates a lot of cloud and rainfall - October is certainly Victoria's wettest month and it's living up to that, in the next few days."
The rain followed temperatures in the high twenties, to low 30's, across the state.
"For Tuesday, there will be showers across the southern and eastern districtrs, with most of the rain through the far east, with falls of between 10-20 millimetres," Mr Efron said.
"On Wednesday, there'll be tropical moisture, with rain and thunderstorms in the north of the state, then reaching the south at night."
That could bring a further 15-30mm, across much of Victoria.
The north-east coud see falls of up to 50mm on Thursday, leading to concerns about flooding.
"We are set up for quite unsettled conditions in the middle of the week, but it will ease, later in the week."
