Tony Mellington decided to take a photo of his father, John, when he was moving a mob of sheep between Yaapeet and Rainbow recently.
"Moments after the photo was taken, a brown snake split the pack and dad's heartbeat raised a bit ... he's 83," Mr Mellington said.
"He was pretty lucky to tell you the truth, but it didn't stop him from volunteering to help out."
