White Suffolk and Suffolk rams sold to a top of $10,000 and averaged $4194 at the Elite White Suffolk and Suffolk rams sale on Sunday.
Held for the first time on AuctionsPlus due to COVID-19 restrictions, the sale offered 89 lots and achieved a clearance of 48 per cent, or 43 lots.
A further nine lots were sold immediately after the close of the online bidding.
As well as the offering of rams there was a selection of ewes offered with a Suffolk making $2400 and White Suffolk ewes to $1500.
The sale topper was lot 35 that sold for $10,000 account Peter and Julie Button, Ramsay Park, Minlaton, SA, and was purchased by a partnership of Steve Funke, Bundara Downs, SA, and Brent Addis, Yonga Downs, WA.
The June 2019-drop sire was by Farrer 170015 and showed Australia Sheep Breeding Values of 0.41 kilograms birth weight (BWT) 12.3kg weaning weight (WWT) 19.3kg PWT, 3.2 milimetres eye muscle depth (PEMD) and post weaning fat 0.1.
Mr Button said the ram was structurally correct with great balance and high figures for growth and muscle, slightly positive for fat.
Jonno Hicks, Hannaton stud, Kaniva, paid $8750 for lot 42 sold account the Somerset stud of Lauchie McRae, Cavendish. The Ramsey Park-sired ram had figures of 0.35 BWT, 12.6 WWT: 20.4 PWT 20.4 and 3.2 PEMD.
The Somerset stud also sold lot 41 for $6750. The July 2019-drop ram had figures of 0.41 BWT, 10.4 WWT, 16.9 PWT and 3.1 PEMD.
Lot 15 that sold for $8500 is headed for Eugowra, NSW, after it was sold account the Lauridale White Suffolk stud, Wakool, NSW.
The April 2019-drop ram was by Rangeview 160121 and had figures of 0.31 BWT, 9.9 WWT, 15.7 PWT and 1.7 PEMD.
Selling after the finalisation of bidding was lot 3 sold account Shane and Amber Baker, Booloola stud, Baringhup. It was passed in at $9750 and sold after to an undisclosed buyer and price.
Lot 30 sold account Omad White Suffolks, Kaniva, and made $7500 to an Elders Kilmore account. The ram had figures of 0.21 BWT, 9.4 WWT, 1.4 PWT: 2.3 PEMD and 0.5 PFAT.
Selling for $7000 was lot 26, sold account the Newbold stud, Gawler, SA, that went to a SA buyer.
The ram had a BWT of 0.57, WWT of 12.2, PWT of 18.5 and a PEMD of 2.
A Tasmanian-based ram account Sunnybanks, Penguin, sold for $6750 to a Victorian buyer. The July 2019-drop ram showed figures of 0.33 BWT, 8.5 WWT, 13.3 PWT and 1.8 PEMD.
The top of the Suffolk catalogue was lot 79, Sayla Park Suffolks, Kilmore, for $6000. The July 2019-drop ram was by Oakwood 166158 with figures of 0.7 BWT, 10.9 WWT, 17.3 PWT, 1.3 PEMD and 0.1 PFAT.
A Suffolk ram sold account Warra-J Suffolks, Penola, SA, sold for $5000. Sired by Pamellen 160028, the ram had a BWT of 0.55, WWT of 9.5, PWT of 15.2, PEMD of 2.0 and PFAT of 0.6.
Top of the ewes sold was an entry from Deppeler Suffolks, Derrinallum.
The June 2019-drop ewe by Deppeler 170059 sold for $2400. The ewe, which weighed 92 kilograms on July 13, was described by the vendor as a "very classy, quality ewe".
The top White Suffolk ewe at $1500 was Rocdell 190054, a July 2019-drop ewe from Rocdell White Suffolk stud, Bigga, NSW.
