Female cattle were popular among East Gippsland farmers on Friday as agents offered a reduced yarding of cattle for the fortnightly store sale.
Only 424 steers and heifers were penned in the sale ahead of Tuesday's special feature calf sale at the East Gippsland Livestock Exchange where 4000 weaner cattle will be sold.
Sharp Fullgrabe & Co director Graeme Fullgrabe said prices were on a par with previous sales in the state's east.
"It was a good sale for female stock and the yarding was made up mostly of grass cattle, bigger cattle, and they all made close to 400 cents a kilogram," Mr Fullgrabe said.
"We had mainly locals on the female cattle and support from South Gippsland for the steers and Garrison Cattle Feeders on the heavier cattle."
Anthony Keys, Nicholson, sold 16 Angus steers, 476kg, for $1740 or 365c/kg.
