The Branson family's Banquet Angus, Morlake, bull sale topped the $10,000 average mark for the first time ever.
In an even line-up of 101 bulls offered, 98 sold under the hammer for a record sale average of $10,040 on a top price of $27,000.
Perennial top buyer was Chas and Cass Kimpton, Toora West, Glenthompson, who paid $27,000 for lot 25, an 18-month-old bull weighing 830 kilograms and by a Duncan son, Banquet Jamberoo J507.
The bull had figures of +101 kilogams for 400-day weight and +132kg for 600-day.
Mr Kimpton said the bull had length, scale and "stood up and looked at you".
He said the bull had the style, length and bone to carry the weight.
The bull was a different style of bull to the one they purchased for $48,000, he said.
He said this bull's pedigree went back to a lot of older bulls.
"Old fashioned genetics that work," he said.
Blyth Brothers, Fernleigh Angus, Warragul, paid second top price of $22,000 for lot seven, Banquet Placid, a son of Banquet Jindabyne J296. Placid P009 had figures of +98kg for 400-day weight and +130kg for 600-day.
A son of Wattletop Moonshine, Banquet Planet P333, fetched a bid of $21,000 offered by KW & ME Frost, Poolaijelo.
Lot 31, Banquet Paxman P306 bull, September 2018-drop, sold for $20,000 to Quarterway Angus, Tasmania. The bull was a son of Ben Nevis Metamorphic M51 with figures of +112kg for 400-day weight and +143kg for 600-day.
Stud principal Stephen Branson said the sale result was "tremendous".
He said the record average wasn't on the back of a record high price, rather it was an even draft of bulls with a large group of buyers.
The sale reflected the bulls - they were an even line with a lot of choices for people.
He said he took it as a huge compliment that buyers came and took time to understand what Banquet was trying to achieve.
He said there were new sire groups - Banquet Lukas L200, Ben Nevis Metamorphic M51, Wattletop Moonshine and Banquet Leigh L010.
Mr Branson said that with the new genetics coming through he felt like he was "just starting out".
He said he was most proud of the heifers that were offered prior to the bull sale by Robbie and Marg Patterson.
The rising two-year-old heifers were offered as pregnancy-tested-in-calf to Banquet Lascelles L022 and Banquet Nixon N099 and sourced from six leading Banquet clients.
Mr Branson said it was a tremendous run of commercial females.
It was exciting to see the heifers that Banquet genetics could produce for their clients.
The top pen of heifers sold for between $2850 and $3200 a head.
