Old pals meet under the peppercorn trees at Newmarket


The 29th Newmarket saleyards reunion attracted about 70 to the annual event.


The came from far and wide, the people and their families with ties to the 29th Newmarket Reunion held recently.

Organisers said about 70 people attended representing a wide range of connections to the iconic old yards.

Organiser, Kevin Shrimpton, said it was about keeping the promise he and brother Mark made to their father, the late John Shrimpton, that they would continue his legacy.

"It's difficult to keep it going, but we'll keep coming as long as they keep coming," Kevin Shrimpton said.

He said this year's crowd included people in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

There was recognition for those who had supported the reunion, including Stock & Land, over the years and "those who are no longer with us".

A number of items were raffled on the day as well as the auction of a bottle of scotch.

The fundraising totaled $777 that will assist in holding the reunions for years to come.

The bottle of scotch was donated by as was the meat for the barbeque.

Bruce Logan said the reunion would retain its place on the third Saturday of February each year.
