Stock &amp; Land Beef Week wrapped up today with eight studs opening their gates on the final day of the eight-day event that's covered the entire state. The beef cattle studs that opened today included Babrooten Angus and South Devon, Macorna Limousin, Black Diamond Speckle Park, Jackungah Speckle Park, Merribrook Angus, Merridale Angus, Mount Major Murray Grey and Pattison Poll Hereford. The day was the perfect opportunity for stud principals to show off their breeding stock and properties. Were you there? BLACK DIAMOND/MACORNA: The Speckle Park and Limousin stud's Blake and Murray Van der Drift, Macorna, with some of the Speckle Park and Limousin females on display. Murray Van der Drift said for the first time they had enough heifers in both breeds to enter the RASV Heifer Challenge. He said the competition was an opportunity to put their best stock out was a good opportunity to get a fresh eye and second opinion on their stock. He said they were tough on  temperament, looking for docility in their cattle.

BLACK DIAMOND/MACORNA: Murray and Blake Van der Drift with  Black Diamond Poster Boy P207. Murray Van der Drift said the sire would be collected for use over females in the herd as well as being shown.

PATTISON: Hayley Pattison, Pattison Herefords, Minmi, Burraboi, NSW, with a pen of 2019-drop bull calves on display. Ms Pattison said  the majority of the calves were out of first-calf heifers, joined as 15-month-olds, that calved without assistance.

PATTISON: This bull calf was named after a friend of Ms Pattison - Pattison Qusay Sam - who committed suicide. When sold the profit from the sale would be donated to Beyond Blue.

PATTISON: Two future sires used at Pattison were Stanford Mazda and Pattison Porthouse. The first calves would calve down in March.

MERRIDALE: Visitors to Mewrridale included Tim Woodham, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Wagga Wagga, NSW, stud principal Peter Collins, Merridale, Tennyson, and Pat Joyce and Cindy Smith, Kelly Angus, Yea. Mr Collins said sires included an AI sire from Canada - Bushs Easy Decision 98 (by Vin-Mar O'Reilly Factor). The stud had sale bulls on display for inspection prior to the on-property sale as well as heifers that would be offered on the sale day.

MERRIDALE: Inspecting female cattle at Merridale were Murk and Kate Schoen, Aarden Angus, Corowa, NSW, with Brodie Collins, Merridale.

MERRIDALE: Welcome to Merridale Angus, Tennyson.

MERRIBROOK: Merribrook Angus stud principal, Graeme Collins, Milloo, had sold three bulls by 1pm. He said regular buyers were invited to attend the day to select bulls from thedisplay. He said the bulls were sold as yearlings. He was always introducing new genetics with AI including VAR Index 3282, Clunes Crossing Dusty and GAR Failsafe.

BABROOTEN: Alisha Macumber, Babrooten South Devon and Australis stud of John Brian, Tongala, pictured with a group of pure South Devon and also Australis females. The Australis cattle were a two-breed combination - South Devon and Angus - first-cross. The herd included Australis females that were seventh generation. Pure South Devon cattle were also bred to meet demand from clients for those genetics to use over Angus females.

BABROOTEN: Australis steers such as these have been sent to Tasmania for finishing to suit the Cape Grim beef brand.

JACKUNGAH: Jackungah Speckle Park stud principal, Jack Nelson, Pine Lodgewas taking part in Beef Week for the first time and proudly displayed the foundation female of his herd. The stud was established in 2012. The cow was bought because of her great udder, milk, feet and big body. Mr Nelson said the cow and her daughters had been flushed to build numbers and retain the attributes she handed to her daughters. 

JACKUNGAH: A heifer bought at the Speckle Me sale at Orange, NSW, in October.

JACKUNGAH: A young sire, Jackungah Quieter Secret will be shown before being offered for sale at Sydney next year.

MOUNT MAJOR: Brett Davidson with his daughter Maisie and mother Jenny and visitor, Carolyne McRae, Dajory Grey stud, Shepparton, at the Mount Major display. Mr Davidson said he bought two new sires last year - Rogielyn Jupitor and Carlinga Mordred
