Stock &amp; Land Beef Week kicked off today, with studs in NSW opening their gates for the eight-day event. Studs that opened their gates included Doodle Cooma/Schipps, Challambi, Dunoon, Eurimbla, Garren Park, Glenellerslie, Kirraweena, Glenholme, Graham, Hicks, Injemira, Irelands, Kanimbla, Reiland, Ravensdale, Rennylea, Sugarloaf Creek, Summit Livestock, Table Top, Wormbete, Warwick Court, Wirruna and Yavenvale. The event is the perfect opportunity for stud principals to show off their breeding stock and properties to existing and prospective clients. Were you there? INJEMIRA: Injemira stud principal Marc Greening, Book Book, NSW, with some of the 92 Poll Hereford bulls on offer at their February 25 sale. Mr Greening said he believed they will have the largest number of Homozygous Poll bulls for sale in Australia with 70 in the draft this year. This includes the first five lots of the sale, sons of Ravensdale Wildfire L133.

INJEMIRA: Injemira stud principal Marc Greening, Book Book, NSW (second from right), with clients Nick and Georgia Wragge, Woomargama Station, Holbrook, NSW, Hank Heus, Tatong, NSW, and James Turner, Tobermory Pastoral, Goulburn, NSW. Mr Greening said they had a good line-up of regular clients attend the open day.

IRELAND: Ireland stud principal Corey Ireland, Kyeamba, NSW, with long-time client Henk Van Den Heuvel, Camden, NSW, and a selection of the stud's 10 month-old yearling bulls. Ireland Angus had a range of cattle on display ahead of their April 17 autumn sale where Mr Ireland confirmed they will present close to 50 bulls.

DOODLE COOMA/SCHIPPS: Stud principals Daryl and Trish Schipp, Alfredtown, NSW, with one of their 20 month-old Poll Hereford bulls on offer. The stud sold a bull before the gates even opened this morning. Mr Schipp said it was a great way to kick off the day.

DOODLE COOMA/SCHIPPS: Fourteen month-old Red Angus calves on display. The stud's latest Red Angus sires include Hicks Ada, MMM Lunch Money and Bolton Girls Jackpot.


DUNOON: Dunoon Angus stud principal Jock Harbison, Holbrook, NSW, with long-term client John Adams, Staghorn Flat. At the recent weaner sales, Mr Harbison had the best presented pen at the Angus sale with Dunoon-blood steers selling for $1135. Mr Harbison had 102 bulls on display for the March 2 sale. He has quite a few new sire lines which are enhancing his focus on well-balanced EBVs along with bulls with thickness, length and carcase quality. One such introduction was Topbos Leading Edge who is consolidating existing traits such as moderate birth with terrific early growth.

DUNOON: Peter Covan, Culcairn, NSW, comparing notes with Doug Tozer, Onslow Angus, Cootamundra, NSW, at Dunoon's open day. Mr Tozer likes the idea of Stock & Land Beef Week as a wonderful concept where people can look at cattle in a relaxed atmosphere.

DUNOON: Angus bulls at Dunoon, Holbrook, NSW.

DUNOON: Oliver Burgun, Shearwell, Bendigo, with his display of electronic tags and readers which enable beef producers to identify animals with leading genetic traits in their herds.

HICKS: Tom Hicks, Hicks Beef, Holbrook, NSW, with Jane and Chris Stanmore, Bungowannah, NSW. The Stanmores are beef producers and were looking around to see what was going on with genetic direction in the beef industry. They said it was a great chance to visit studs and compare the different breeds of cattle and see how they might fit into their operation.

WIRRUNA: Jack Hanna and Annabel Locke, Wirruna Poll Herefords, with the draft of growth bulls which will be offered for sale on 26 February.

WIRRUNA: Wirruna stud principal Ian Locke discussing bull requirements with client Roger Morton, Borambola, NSW. Mr Morton takes his steers through to feedlot weight on grass through normal season and said the progeny of Wirruna-bred bulls admirably fulfill his breeding goals.

KANIMBLA: Kanimbla Poll Hereford stud principals Mark Baker, James and Belinda McWilliam with the three Poll Hereford bulls they are taking to the annual whiteface show and sale in Wodonga. They had 30 Poll Hereford bulls on display and Mr McWilliam reported seven were sold for a $6500 average. He said the stud is concentrating on calving ease and carcase quality, two traits which are most important for the Hereford breed. 

RAVENSDALE: The Ravensdale Poll Hereford team Katie Wills, Brian Burgess, Simon and Libby Ward and Sammy with the four bulls in preparation for the annual whiteface show and sale in Wodonga. The stud had 18 sale bulls on display along with 18 bulls prepared for Wodonga. Mr Burgess reported sales of seven bulls at $4000. He said they had reduced their price this year in light of current seasonal conditions and difficulty with fires.

RAVENSDALE: Simon Ward and his father Bryan looking over the pen of heifers entered for the Beef Week Heifer Challenge. Last year the stud was successful in winning the event and in 2018 were placed among the finalists. Mr Ward hopes they will emulate that success this year.

GLENELLERSLIE: Peter Peel, Darlow Park, Adelong, NSW, checked out the Hereford and Poll Hereford bulls to be offered at the Glenellerslie sale in February. He is pictured with Blake, Ross and Alicia Smith, as well as 2 year-old Hamish Tobin. 

GLENELLERSLIE: Glenellerslie Herefords at Adelong, NSW, have had an anxious start to the year with bushfires in the area. A fire reached almost to the boundary of their property as you can see behind this bull on display during Stock & Land Beef Week.

GRAHAM: Jason Graham, Graham stud, Cootamundra, NSW, had these yearling bulls on display during Stock & Land Beef Week. Also on display were stud sires, bulls selected for the Herefords Australia Hereford National in Wodonga in May, as well as heifers and cows with calves at foot. Mr Graham also displayed two LImousin heifers, with the stud diversifying into the breed in the past 12 months. 

GRAHAM: Stud sire Mawarra Evolution, and one of his first sons used in the Graham Hereford herd, were on display during Beef Week. Stud principal Jason Graham, Cootamundra, NSW, said an extensive ET program would boost stud numbers in their Hereford, Poll Hereford and Limousin herds extensively in the next 12 months.

KIRAWEENA/GLENHOLME: Kiraweena/Glenholme Hereford principal Geoff Bush of Cootamundra, NSW, showed Brett and John Reid, Wyeeboo Herefords, Tallangatta Valley, NSW, through his sale bull offering on display for Stock & Land Beef Week 2020 on Wednesday. Mr Bush won't be holding his annual on-property sale at the beginning of March because of the drought and fires in the region. The heifers usually offered at the sale are also away on agistment because of the season.

KIRAWEENA/GLENHOLME: Brett and John Reid, Wyeeboo Herefords in the Tallangatta Valley, inspecting the cattle on display at Kiraweena/Glenholme Herefords, Cootamundra, NSW. Brett Reid said they were looking for new genetics all the time, while Kiraweena/Glenholme principal Geoff Bush said the Stock & Land Beef Week open day was a great opportunity for other breeders to do just that.

REILAND: Tim Woodham, Landmark, with Sam Lucas, Reiland Angus, Killimicat, NSW, with Reiland Pirelli P913. Pirelli is a rising two year-old bull used in the Reiland herd, with all Angus breeding value indexes in the top 1 per cent of the breed. Reiland also had breeding females, heifers and sale bulls on display, with their annual sale to be held in April.

WORMBETE: Henry and Russell Parker, Holbrook, NSW, were inspecting the traditional and Black Simmental sale bulls on display at Wormbete stud, Illabo, NSW. They are pictured with stud principal John Hopkins. The Parkers are regular clients at Wormbete. 

WORMBETE: Nicole Hopkins, Wormbete SImmentals, Illabo, NSW, with some of the heifers which made up the Heifer Challenge pen of traditional Simmentals they displayed for Stock & Land Beef Week 2020. Wormbete also entered a pen of Black Simmental heifers for the first time this year.

YAVENVALE: It was business as usual for Yavenvale Herefords, Adelong, NSW, for Stock & Land Beef Week on Wednesday, despite the operation being severely impacted by bushfire on New Year's Eve. Travelling to inspect the bulls to be offered at the Yavenvale sale in February was Will Western, a regular Yavenvale client with Hereford herds at both Harden and Tumut, NSW. He is pictured with Yavenvale principal James Pearce.

YAVENVALE: Corey and Mel Parker, Cornel Breeding, Contracting and Sales, Holbrook, NSW, visited Yavenvale Herefords for their Stock & Land Beef Week open day on Wednesday. The Parkers were checking out some of the ET sale bulls they had assisted in raising via contract for the Yavenvale stud. 

EURIMBLA: Eurimbla stud Principal Jill Coghlan and Brett Singe, Henty, NSW. Stock & Land Beef Week provides an opportunity for Ms Coghlan and husband Ian to present their Eurimbla Reds. The duo began breeding Red Polls in 1974 and in 2008 added Shorthorns to the program. Eurimbla had a steady flow of visitors come through during the open day.

GARREN PARK: Garren Park stud principals Karen and Garry Hedger, Culcairn, NSW. Sires were on display along with a selection of females representing their cow herd during Stock & Land Beef Week. Sires on display were Flemington Longyard, Ruby Park Lieutenant, Richmond Zodiac, and Meriden Poll Heavy duty. Also their first sons of Garren Park Lucien and their newest imported sire, Richmond Defender, were on display.

GARREN PARK: Dean McGuire, Garren Park, Culcairn, NSW, Anita and Stuart Morant, Tallangatta Valley, NSW, and Rick Tindal, Ramornie Limousins, Holbrook, NSW, inspecting a couple of bulls for sale during day one of Stock & Land Beef Week. Garren Park sold four bulls and two heifers before lunch with a steady flow of visitors throughout the day.

RENNYLEA: Lucinda Corrigan, Rennylea, and Madeline Willoughby, Shearwell Australia, Keith, SA. Rennylea had a great flow of people through their gate throughout the day inspecting their sale bulls for their upcoming on-property sale in March.

RENNYLEA: Steve Clifton, Seymour, Peter Wallace, Kiewa, and Anthony Corrigan, Rennylea Angus, pictured with Rennylea L508, who has sired 20 bulls in their upcoming bull sale.

SUGARLOAF CREEK: Sugarloaf Creek stud principals Andrew and Serena Klippel, Towong, NSW, at their Stock & Land Beef Week open day.

SUMMIT: Summit Livestock stud principals Hayden and Jasmine Green, Uranquinty, NSW. Summit aims to produce maternal, easy keeping, polled cattle with performance data suited to the commercial industry. They have a strong focus on quiet temperament, sound udders, and maternal longevity.

TABLE TOP: Jeff, Jessica and Jamo Scott, Table Top Angus, with David Hill and Murray Bullen, David Hill Livestock and Marketing, Albury, NSW. 

TABLE TOP:  Table Top Angus stud principal Tim Scott giving one of his bulls a friendly pat. There was a steady flow of visitors before lunch at Table Top Angus, who successfully sold 13 bulls before lunch. Table Top has been breeding Angus cattle for 20 years and has been participating in Beef Week for 19 years. On display were their sale bulls, cows, calves and heifers.

WARWICK COURT: Isabella Clarke, Melbourne, Julia Tennent, Whittlesea, with Warwick Court stud advisor Chloe Stewart and stud principal Bob Holdsworth, Jindera, NSW. On display were their 18 month-old bulls for sale via private treaty, heifers and their stud sires.
