The 12th annual Beef Country Brahman Bull Sale was held on Friday amidst the tropical North Queensland heat at the Nebo Sports Complex Arena.
Conditions and bidding were hot as the sale saw an excellent result for the attending vendors Hazelton Brahmans, Crinum Brahmans and Crinum Brahman T Studs, who achieved a 100 per cent clearance.
A draft of 57 bulls were offered through the ring with sale figures reaching a collective gross of $318,500 for a solid average of $5,588.
The top priced bull for the day was a pink nosed, poll bull Hazelton Milburn 4942, which sold for $20,000 to Ken and Debbie Rutherford from Redskin Droughtmasters, Morinish.
The Milburn bull tipped the scales at 1000 kilograms as he entered the ring, with figures showing intramuscular fat of 5.5pc and P8 and rib fat depths of 12mm and 10mm.
Reaching an equal second top price of $13,000 were Hazelton Kengsinston H904 (P) was purchased by Fort Cooper Pty Ltd, Nebo and Hazelton Mitch 4953 was bought by Tayglen Cattle Co from Dysart.
Fort Cooper Station was also a volume buyer on the day, securing five bulls to average $8600.
Also buying up in bulk saw Teitzel Grazing, Bowen who purchased seven bulls for an average of $3357, and also Watts Pastoral, Collinsville who brought five bulls to gross $3400.
Rowe Cattle Co, Moranbah took home three bulls to average $6666.
Landmark Mackay agent Tony Dwyer said the sale was very successful considering the unfavourable seasonal conditions of the dry around the Mackay Nebo area.
"There was strong repeat buyer support from the north ranging from Bowen across to Charters Towers and the surrounding local area with over 39 bid cards registered on the day," he said.
