Young Merino ewes sold to $305 with most selling from $210 to $260 at Bendigo associated agents Merino sale.
Agents yarded about 10,000 sheep with buyers mainly from the local areas with some also going to the north east and western districts.
Buyers were selective in their bidding and agents quoted that good quality sheep sold well.
The opening pen of 168 ewes, GJ & L Holmberg, Elmore, again topped the sale selling for $305 and going to repeat buyer A McGillvray, Bendigo. The ewes were May/June 2018-drop, September shorn, Pooginook blood.
A pen of 96 ewes sold account Freemantle and Bell, Woodstock, March/April 2018-drop, August shorn, Aloeburn blood, made $265.
The next pen was forwarded by K Borley, Newbridge, and comprised 97 March/April 2018-drop ewes, August shorn, Aloeburn blood.
P & T Colvin, Kurting, offered a line of 123 ewes, May 2018-drop, September shorn, Oakbank/Kedleston Park, that topped at $250.
JD & RE Humbert, Kedleston Park, Callivil, consigned a draft of 285 Merino ewes, May 2018-drop, September shorn, Kedleston blood and blood, that sold for $240.
Elders livestock manager Nigel Starick, Bendigo, said "we've had a good day".
He said the sale kicked off with the first pen at $305 then it came back to a draft of ewes selling from $260 to $280 with some down to $240.
"The were very buyable at that. The sheep presented very well. It was a buoyant sale, and I don' think too many would be disappointed," Mr Starick said.
He said the majority of the sheep were from local areas where the season had been "very good".
"The feed has started to harden up and the sheep had bloomed up that little bit more in the past six weeks of so," he said.
"On the current mutton job we thought it might have been a bit stronger.
"Buyers have been able to turn over from older sheep."
Copan Pastoral Co, Axedale, consigned ewes including 106 June 2018-drop, September shorn, Tchellery bred and Alma blood that sold for $236.
A line of 267 ewes account Wanabbin, Colbinabbin, went for $235. The ewes were 1.5 years, September shorn, Yanco blood.
Making $220 was a pen of 115 sold account GF & CM Rathjen, Colbinabbin. They were Samm ewes, June/July 218-drop with an August shearing.
A line of 73 ewes with a February skin on them sold account P, J & M Hurse, Moolort, for $220.
Baringhup-based Rob Neilson, sold 100 ewes to $218. These were May/June 2018-drop, October shorn and Panorama/Terrick West blood.
A & A Wilson, Boort, forwarded a pen of 92 ewes, 1.5 years, September shorn, Panorama blood, that were knocked down for $214.
Of the older ewes, a pen of 104, May/June 2017-drop, August shorn, Conrayn blood, came forward from JA & P Pilcher, and sold for $216.
TJ & LN Newton, Avenel, sold 72 May/June 2017-drop ewes, October shorn, Goolgumbla blood, that topped at $208.
A pen of 316 ewes, 2014-drop account C & E McGauchie, Terrick West, October shorn, sold for $202.
Ewe lambs account Lignum Gate, Womboota, sold for $150, while the wether portion of the draft topped at $165.
P & J Sandy, Swifts Creek, consigned sheep that included a draft of April/May 2018 drop ewthers that made $169 while the 2016-drop from the same vendor made $166.
