BUYERS from across western Victoria paid up to $3000 at Peter and Gill Cain's ninth annual Glenore Poll Dorset sale.
Mr Cain said he was very pleased with the result which was a higher average and a better clearance rate than the previous year.
The top-priced ram was bought by William and Marlene Dridan, Willene stud, Allendale.
Mr Dridan said he had come looking for a sire for his stud that would provide meat and length.
The June 2018-drop ram was sired by Hillden 863-16, a sire whose first progeny was offered at this year's sale.
The ram weighed 145.5 kilograms and had figures of 48.23 square centimetres eye muscle area and 10-millimetre fat.
Rodwells Bendigo branch manager Nick Byrne said the sale was helped by a "very good lamb job".
Mr Byrne said the season had also helped with more ewes being joined than during the previous year's dry conditions.
He said genetics was the next most important influence after feed.
James Haddrick, HF Richardson & Co, Ballarat, said the penning of rams was excellent and even all the way through.
Mr Haddrick said there were a lot of repeat buyers who came back because they "knew what they were getting".
Ash Smith, Cypress Park, Windermere, paid $2900 for another Hilden 863-sired ram.
This ram had figures of 46sqcm for EMA and 12mm for fat.
Lot 9 of the sale was another Hillden ram that sold for $2600 and went to S & K McClelland.
Prominent buyer in the specially-selected rams was Piree Partnership who bought four of the first 10 rams offered.
The buyer paid to $2400 for two lots, both by Springwaters 496-16.
Another ram by the Springwaters sire was Lot 5, which sold to D Fletcher for $2400.
Lyndock Farming paid $2000 for the opening ram of the sale.
The Hillden-sired ram had figures of 13mm for fat and 38.88sqcm for EMA.
