A higher average, higher top price and better clearance was a fitting way to end an era with the final Panorama Poll Merino ram sale on Wednesday.
The 30th on-property sale of Frank and Marg Byrne, Borung, saw a good crowd achieve a clearance rate under the hammer of 85 per cent (77.5pc in 2018), a top price of $4500 ($4250) and an average of $1918 ($1500).
Buyers of the top price lot were sale regulars the Hodgson family, Arundel Station, Kyalite, NSW.
Duncan Hodgson said they had been long time clients of Panorama selecting four rams this year at an average of $2225 a head.
He said they liked the good doing ability and easy care of the Panorama genetics.
The rams also bred wethers that were sought after by buyers when they hit the saleyards.
Arundel bought lot two, a May 2018 drop ram sired by home bred ram DK-220. The ram had a micron of 20.6, standard deviation of 3.9, co-efficient of variation of 19.1 and comfort factor of 98.3 per cent.
Ross Jackson, Moyston, was again a strong bidding presence buying three rams to a top of $4000 and averaging $3166 a head.
His top lot was ram 25, also by DK-220, with a micron of 22.4, SD of 4.9, CV of 20.3 and CF of 96.1. The Jacksons paid $3900 for eight, a ram by P-377 from the Panorama "blue print" family.
Loyal buyers of Panorama rams, the Davies family, Eddington. This year three rams were knocked down to the account with a top of $3400 for an average of $3233.
The top was a 20.8 micron ram by a Moorundie Park sire B398. It had figures of 3.5 SD, 16.7 CV and a CF of 99.
A Rodwells, Bendigo, account paid $3200 for an October 2018 drop ram that was by MP-B398, and had a fleece measurement of 18.9, SD of 3, CV of 15.8 and a CF of 99.5. The same buyer paid $2000 for lot 29, a 20.5 micron ram.
