IT WAS a thrilling result for the vendors at the Kedleston Park ram sale on Tuesday with its prized polled ram topping the sale at $12,500.
With widespread interest in the ram that was sold as Lot 3, bidding was brisk with the Pendarra Merino stud of Kelvin and Jackie Pendergast, Benambra, the buyer.
The ram had figures of 18.4 micron, 13.6 co-efficient of variation, standard deviation of 2.5 and comfort factor of 99.7 per cent.
Mr Pendergast said he was drawn to the Toby 2-sired ram when it was displayed at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show in Bendigo.
"I took a real liking to him, he is a proud, upstanding ram with all the things I look for in one package," he said.
Mr Pendergast saw the ram again at Marnoo which "just confirmed" his earlier impressions.
He said the ram would go for semen collection before heading to Benambra.
Kedleston Park stud principal John Humbert said it was a thrill to sell the ram at that price.
"We were thrilled to bits, it was completely unexpected," Mr Humbert said.
He said it was also pleasing to increase the average price as well as have four new clients buying rams.
The sale opened with a polled ram by Banavie 16-0102, that was knocked down to first-time buyers, DJ & K Mortlock Farms, Dunluce, for $6250.
The ram measured 20.1 micron, 13.2 CV, 2.7 SD and 99.8pc CF.
The same buyer bought three further rams to a top of $2750.
Next best price was $5000 for Lot 2, also by Toby 2 and sold to G & MW Haywood, Everton.
The ram had figures of 21.4 micron, 13.6 CV, 2.9 SD and 99.5pc CF, as well as clean fleece weight percentage of 135.
The same buyer paid $3500 for another Toby 2-sired ram at Lot 6.
The 21-micron ram had a CV of 12.9, SD of 2.8 and CF of 99.5.
Rohan Saligari, Campbelltown, bought two rams to a top of $4000 for a Toby 2-sired May 2018-drop ram with a 19.9 micron fleece, and $3250 for the next lot, also by the same sire.
Another ram to make the $4000 was Lot 15, a May 2018-drop ram with figures of 19.5 micron, 14.9 CV, 2.9 SV and 99.7pc CF.
The lot was bought by Sartori and Sons, Newstead.
Peter, Sharon and Matthew Hurse, Moolort, who bought rams at the first on-property sale at Kedleston Park, bought three rams paying to $2250 twice.
A volume buyer was RG & TL Tonkin and Sons who bought six rams paying to $1750.
