The NSW-based Poll Boonoke stud put the finishing touches to the final day of the Australian Sheep & Wool Show selling a ram for $70,000.
The private sale was to a syndicate of two Western Australian studs - Manunda, owned by Wayne and Pippa Button, Tammin, and Kamballie, owned by Shayne and Lisa Mackin, Yorkrakine.
Australian Food and Agriculture Poll Boonoke, Deniliquin, ram breeding manager Angus Munro said the ram, Boonoke 180137, was a "double poll" and bred from the stud's first embryo transfer program "for a while".
Mr Munro said the sire of 180137 was 1328, one of the stud's best breeding sires, related back to Wallaloo Park Real Deal and on his dam's side he was related to PB1 "a really good wool family".
Shayne Mackin said his stud had used Poll Boonoke 28 (the sire of 180137) in an ET program previously and he wanted another son to get another cross.
"It's a big commitment for our stud," Mr Mackin said.
Wayne Button said he was attracted by the ram's carcase and wool trait figures that were "well above average".
Mr Munro said the May/June 2018 drop ram had "very good" test figures.
He tested 19.1 micron, along with a standard and co-efficient of variation in fibre diameter of 3.6 and 18.8 respectively.
Mr Munro said the ram had a comfort factor of 99 per cent and body weight 119.5.
"We have Australian Sheep Breeding Values on this ram and he is 43.1 for yearling clean fleece weight," he said.
"That figure puts him in the top one per cent on fleece weight.
"He's quite an interesting ram. He has a dual purpose index of 162 (top 10pc), a Merino production index of 173 (top 5pc) and a yearling weight of 9.5 (top 5pc)," he said.
