Kangaroos, wild dogs, foxes and now Wedge-tailed Eagles are giving livestock producers nightmares.
Sightings of eagles have been increasing in recent weeks as dry weather bites hard and other feed sources dwindle.
With the onset of lambing in many districts the activities of foxes and eagles has jumped.
Anecdotal reports from across central Victoria are of eagles feeding on lamb carcases as well as taking live lambs.
On its website the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning says research had established that Wedge-tailed Eagles "hardly ever attack healthy lambs and never fully-grown sheep".
According to DELWP a Wedge-tailed eagle's diet included live prey - rabbits, mammals, lizards, possums, foxes and feral cats - and carrion (dead and decaying animals) such as road kill or dead stock.
Foxes have also been active as lambing ramps up.
