A yarding of 1500 cattle by Colac Associated Agents saw a penning of steers, heifers, cows and calves and joined cows.
There was a good selection of well presented grown cattle as well as annual drafts of weaner steers but only small lines of heifers.
Grown steers topped at $1310 and weaners at $1210 while heifers made to $885.
Grown steers sold at rates 260 to 300c/kg and weaners 280 to 330c/kg. Heifers were 230 to 275c/kg while cows and calves topped at $1400 and joined cows at $900.
Competition was solid on all types but buyers were selective and pursued the quality lines with more vigour.
Competition was mainly from local grass finishers but there was strong bidding from a North Eastern feedlotter and South Australian feedlotter.
AP Roberts, Bungador, sold Charolais cross steers weighing 516kg for $1310 while Webster Trading had 457kg steers that made $1210.
Purumbete South Angus sold steers to $1190 weighing 410kg and a further lot weighing 385kg for $1160. Hillview Farms Angus sold steers weighing 428kg for $1130 and Nelson Park Angus $1170 (434kg). M&A Edgar sold Angus steers weighing 392kg for $1120.
Annual drafts of steer weaners commanded strong competition.
Of the weaner steers the major vendor was La Robe Angus, Eurack, with 100 steers that made $1210 to $1020 (406kg to 318kg) or 290c/kg to 320c/kg.
AD Blain forwarded 40 Angus/Hereford cross weaners with the tops making $1090 and down to $910 o weights ranging from 305 to 391kg, priced at 290c/kg to 318c/kg. HR&BA Beach, Birregurra, received $1060 for Angus steers weighing 398kg, FI Grant $920 for Angus steers (324kg), AJ Turner $940 (338kg), G&S Splatt, Ang/Here cross $980 (325kg), and G&C Bath Char/Ang $990 (351kg).
Of the heifers offered M&H Lenehan sold Angus cross weighing 380kg for $885. GK Battye sold Angus at $840 (346kg), AJ Turner $820 (363kg) and J&D McGeary $770 (340kg).
In the cows with calves at foot Balstock sold mixed age Angus cows with October drop Angus CAF for $1400. D Gray sold Limousin cows and CAF for $1200.
