Recent rain influenced many people to attend store cattle markets last week, which could have been for several reasons.
The most obvious reason was to buy cattle, but some where there just because it was too wet to work on farm. Also, it is always a good place to catch up with friends, agents and neighbours.
Being close to the end of the month, fewer markets were held, and this can also add to the volume of people attending sales.
It was quite obvious to me, that the rain had bought smiles to many faces, as while it may not grow much grass for some, it at least changes your mindset for the short term.
When following the markets, most of the talk was about how much rain was received, or in north eastern markets, it was also about northern competition, or how rain at this time of the year can reduce the value of any dry feed.
