Clive and Di Anderson, have large holdings in the high country, with their main farm at Benambra.
Clive was at Bairnsdale, Friday, to see if the recent rain would make much difference to cattle prices.
Benambra has been very dry, although not the worst of the high country. However, Clive said “we had plenty of our own hay to start with, but still had to bring in seven other loads.”
“We have retained all of our 2018 drop calves, and will now be able to keep them for the annual Omeo calf sales in March, next year,” Clive said.
Good rain has fallen across all of their high country properties this week, which has been the second good fall of late. There are still a few bales of hay in the Anderson’s sheds, and now they will be able to cut hay of their own.
While the grass is green, it is still short, but will grow rapidly, especially with some follow up rain that is predicted for later next week eventuates.
Clive was happy to see how prices improved at Friday’s sale of 2260 cattle, especially for the heifers.
