VOLUME buyer, Glenthompson Pastoral Co, Glenthompson, paid a sale top of $11,500 at the 28th Annual Horsham Border Leicester stud ram and ewe sale on Monday.
The annual multi-vendor sale saw 15 breeders represented selling 27 rams of 37 offered to average $4750.
One ewe was offered and sold for $1300.
Buyers attended from South Australia, NSW and a wide area of Victoria.
Lot 3 topped the sale for vendor Heather Stoney, Ellingerrin, Modewarre.
The ram had been judged champion ram of the show by Murray Brown, Bedgerebong, NSW, prior to the sale, and had figures of 124 kilograms liveweight, muscle width (MW) of 47 milimetres, muscle depth (MD) of 97mm, an eye muscle area (EMA) of 35.10 square centimetres and fat depth of 9mm.
Ellingerrin sold a total of five rams for an average of $6900.
They also sold a ram for $9000 to MG & JA Farley, Towani stud, Kerang. The ram had figures of 116.5kg weight, 46 MW, 97 MD, 34.35 EMA and 10mm fat depth.
Second top price of $10,000 was registered for a ram from David and Carol Jackson, Jackson Border Leicesters, Moyston.
The ram was purchased by Pembroke Pastoral Co, Telangatuk East.
The ram was Lot 16 and had figures of 116.5kg weight, 47mm MW, 99 MD, 35.82 EMA and 12mm fat depth.
David Jackson said the ram’s twin had sold for $12,000 at the stud’s on-property sale a fortnight ago.
Mr Jackson said the rams were among the first rams by the stud’s sire, Jackson Carbine.
A ram from the Harvey Family Trust, Paxton stud, Bordertown, SA, sold for $9500 to AJ & SJ Geue, Kingston, SA.
The ram weighed 136.5kg and had an EMA of 40.42 and fat depth of 12.
The same vendor sold Lot 10 for $8500 to DJ & AM Galpin, Warrawindi, Penola, SA.
Emily and Scott Davidson, Morton stud, Lucindale, SA, sold Lot 19 for $9000 to M & K Harvey Family Trust, Bordertown, SA.
Ms Davidson said they were long-time sellers at Horsham.
“We are very happy with the sale. It’s nice to get our genetics out there,” she said.
The buyer paid $10,000 for a Morton stud ram at Horsham two years ago.
Ian Baker, Geraldine stud, Clydebank, sold five rams to a top of $7500 and averaging $4200. The top ram was bought by TJ Munro, Taronga Park, Hynam, SA.
The single Border Leicester ewe offered account Ellingerrin sold for $1300 to DH Campbell, Avoca Stud Stock, Gulgong, NSW.
