Last year’s Royal Melbourne Show Beef Shorthorn Junior Champion heifer Morningtime, Spring Hill’s Kiribati’s Blossom Four has taken out the Supreme ribbon, building on last year’s success.
Judge, Troy Setter, Consolidated Pastoral Company chief executive said the David Ashley and grandchildren entrant, with calf at foot, was really impressive.
“She’s quite a young cow but carried herself really well,” Mr Setter said.
“She has an unbelievably good udder, there’s plenty of milk in that udder, its well balanced and has plenty of milk.
“She is carrying a really high quality bull calf there, very, very impressive structurally, with a great amount of muscle and he’s going to go on to be a great bull calf.”
Blossom, a February 2016 drop female, was sired by Morningtime Kiribati, out of Morningtime Red.
Junior champion heifer was the Ashley’s Mornington Malmo’s Blossom, a February 2017-drop female, while the Spencer family’s Nitro took out Junior and Grand Champion bull.
Mr Setter said Nitro, an August 2017-drop bull, sired by Marrington Minstrel, out of the Spencer familie’s Margie’s Sugarlips, was a “cracking bull” and provided strong competition for the Grand Champion.
“It’s really important we get all the breeding apparatus on these bulls in the right structure,” Mr Setter said.
“I really like the style of this bull, for the want of a better word, he is a really tidy bull.”
