It was third-time lucky for Mount Monmot’s ram, who after two reserve champion wins, finally took out supreme Perendale exhibit at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Exhibited by Trudy Boyer and Malcolm Fletcher, the Skipton stud won both champion ram and champion ewe, with one year-old siblings.
Mr Fletcher said both were a good example of what they are striving to breed, and both would remain in the stud flock to be bred from.
He said the ram’s length of body, wool type and wool cut meant he was a stand out ram.
While it was the ram’s first champion win, the ewe wasn’t shy to show success.
She had won champion Perendale ewe at both the Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo and Sheepvention in Hamilton earlier this year.
Mr Fletcher said she had outstanding wool quality.
He was proud of both of his champion exhibits, particularly given they were “still babies”.
