Wellington Shire is looking for more store cattle markets for its Gippsland Regional Livestock Exchange at Sale, and this saw agents offer just 249 head Friday.
Just two weeks after the last store sale, but more importantly, after recent rain that has taken the importance out of the need to sell, it was hard to muster any more cattle.
However, a good gallery of buyers attended this market that offered a mixed, and store condition class of cattle.
Only two producers offered yearling cattle, and these being sold in small lots, and of mixed breeding, competition was very lean. Shorthorn and their crosses sold only from $760-$1100, being good buying for a longer term project.
R Porto offered 8 yearling Angus steers, which sold for $1080. At the end of the sale Skiba & Vandenbeld, Bengworden, sold yearling 20 yearling Friesian steers. The 6 heaviest sold for $1280, which was dearer than recent sales.
Generally, the balance of the steers were of light weight and sold to stronger competition. It was hard to judge how much dearer prices were, but it was a positive trend over the whole sale.
Steers sold between $500 & $860. A Pelz sold 23 Hereford and Angus steers from $540-$860, and R&J Aitken, 14 Red Poll steers for $790.
While the small offering of heifers made between $390 & $670, this was a dearer trend than two weeks ago.
G&J Collins sold 12 Angus heifers for $670, and Kilbirnie Partners, 10 Charolais-Angus heifers for $510.
