One of the feature lines that attracts plenty of attention each year at the Hamilton Euro-breeds sale is the composite-bred line of The Highlands Simmental-Shorthorn-Hereford weaners bred at Paschendale by Malcolm and Sherri Robertson.
Mr Robertson said it is an interesting combination of breeds that has lured buyers from all areas of the state and in particular for the heifer line which is wanted broadly for breeding purposes.
“We make no secret of their breeding,” Mr Robertson said. The Simmental component comes from Waterfront, our Hereford bulls are sourced from Andrew Lyons’ Wilkah stud and the Shorthorn bulls is derived from Geoff Williamson at Carisbrook.
As for which bulls are used when, well that is alternated each year cross the various age groups and mobs to kept the content as evenly balanced as possible.
The Highland’s line of SSH-cross will be offered in the Euro-breeds on January 16 by JM Ellis & Co.
