The Yield has released its sensing and predictions system for agriculture, which used Tasmanian data in the testing phase.
Sensing+ for Agriculture helps growers optimise on-farm decisions through providing accurate predictions at field and hot spot level.
Matt Pooley’s Richmond vineyard has been a Sensing+ trial site for 18 months and he said the technology helped with measuring data.
“We had a dry period early last year, which led to us increase water,” Mr Pooley said.
“A lot of that decision was made on gut feel, but Sensing+ can tell us more accurately. Having the flexibility to adapt during growing season is critical,” he said.
Spreyton apple and pear grower Brett Squibb said the system delivered custom alerts to his phone.
“By setting alarm notifications for adverse spray conditions, wind speed, soil moisture and leaf wetness, the app tells me as soon as conditions that require me to take action are approaching,” Mr Squibb said.
