BORN on the last day of 2015, the bull Ganado Lionel has come first place in the Murray Grey judging.
Exhibited by Courtney Hazeldene, Ganado Greys, Marong, the son of Wattledene Gido weighed 922kg and had an eye muscle area (EMA) of 123sqcm and scans of 14mm and 13mm fat on the rump and the rib respectively. It was the only senior bull to be shown in the breed.
Judge Dianna Wood was impressed by the bull’s overall power.
“When you get in behind him, (you notice) the depth of body and the spring of rib and that hindquarter is just fantastic,” she said.
“We get paid on cents per kilogram, and with his length of body, the carcase he’s got, his figures and growth of age is just fantastic.”
For the supreme title, it beat grand champion female Prairie Falls Bouquet M1, exhibited by Crystal Bell, Prairie Falls, Breakaway Creek.
Ms Wood said the January 2016 drop heifer showed a lot of potential with depth of body, width through hips and femininity.
