An Allendale Suffolk ewe has added another broad ribbon to her impressive haul, by winning supreme exhibit of the breed at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Principal of the Bordertown, South Australia, based stud Alastair Day said at Adelaide and Melbourne, the ewe had competed for 15 ribbons – at had won them all. This included the supreme all breeds ewe at Adelaide.
It was of Allendale’s own bloodlines – her sire was the ASSBA’s short-wool ram in 2009 and the sire of her dam won champion ram at Adelaide in 2008. Mr Day said they planned to join the June 2016-drop ewe in January for a June lambing. He said they might consider including her in an ET program after that.
To take supreme, the ewe beat the champion ram, which was also exhibited by the Day family. This champion ram won reserve champion at the Adelaide feature show. The Days also had the reserve champion ram. They are both by home-bred sires, of different bloodlines, and they will be offered for sale at the stud’s on-property sale in two weeks.
